CC Constitutional Convention

Ok, not CC Constitutional Convention, but Friends of CC Music Constitutional Convention doesn’t have quite the same headline ring. Or you could go with “Congress” if you like the anarchist term for the word. You shouldn’t read a lot into the word choice, but if you have a better term for getting together to write founding documents, we can certainly change it.

On Sunday, September 15, 2024, Jason Smith, Ryan Breedlove, Sam Austin, and I met to discuss plans for a 2025 Friends of CC Music event. Ryno has done successful shows in Charlotte, NC, Milwaukee, WI, and Jackson, MS, so Ryno has a great vision for that. However, the discussion about the budget for Ryno’s proposed show has made me think that perhaps we need to figure out fundraising before July 2025.

Currently, we have three options:
1. Have the Convention in Jackson with Netlabel Week

2. Have an in-person event in Minneapolis, either instead of Jackson or some other day.

3. Have an event online.

Online is easier to plan and execute, and easily frees us from the confines of Netlabel Week. I think this is the best path, but so far I have not gotten any feedback from community members, so please let me know what you think about the plan.

The current proposal is to start at 8am and go to 8pm on Saturday, January 25, but we could make it a two-day work session if people thought that was useful.

We will, of course, continue work on things, but as of now the agenda would look like this:

US Central TimeUS PacificJapan TimeAgenda Item
8623Regional Orgs
970 (aka midnight)Global Summits
1081Branded Shows
1192Stakeholder orgs
12 (aka noon)103Articles of Incorporation
13 (aka 1pm)114IRS filing status
14125Website & Logo
15136Steering Committee
16147Fundraising
17158CC CMA
18169CC Hall of Fame
191710Elections

In order to not make this blog post super long, and in order to get it out sooner rather than later, I will plan to write a blog post about each session, and then the various friends of CC music can decide which sessions to attend.

Whether or not the event is in January or July, this will remain the agenda unless we feel that we have conclusively resolved an issue. I hope we are able to get some of these resolved before the meeting, so that we can plan a lunch break. As the agenda changes, we will update this spreadsheet (and maybe add more timezones).

If you want to get involved, please join us at meet.jit.si/ccmusic on Sunday October 13 at 2pm US Central and also let me know that you want to be involved so you can be invited to any topical meetings we might have before Oct 13.

I didn’t think my thoughts were coherent enough though for a post at http://friendsofccmusic.org which is saying a lot considering the series I start is on my thoughts about the agenda for the Friends of CC Music Constitutional Convention.
