Netlabel Day 2026 is 4.5 Months Away

Netlabel Day 2026 is 4.5 Months away. What this means is that you need to start thinking about your upcoming releases. If you are a netlabel or musician that releases once a month, think about either holding your June release until July 14, or moving up your July release to the Bastille Day.

The French Revolution is…a complete mixed bag (the first one specifically, but I mean the fact that there are three kinda tells you all you need to know). They killed a ton of people, they abolished slavery, they made great discoveries like the Rosetta Stone, they created a literal Cult of Reason, but they also lacked the basic understanding of economics or of regional differences in France that went back millennia (you know, Vikings in the north, Caesar in the south – stuff like that).

But through it all, Bastille Day remains. I mean, maybe not through it all, a king, dictator, emperor, Directory, Committee, Assembly, or Thing (I mean, I did just mention Vikings, right?) might have gotten rid of it at some point. Who can keep up and it kinda doesn’t matter. Bastille Day remains.

Bastille Day was not the end of the Revolution. It was not really a great victory. It was not really the beginning of the Revolution. The Estates General had already been convened for more than months at the storming of the Bastille.

I said the Bastille was not a great victory, and yet it was. The Bastille showed the commoners that if they came together they really could fight royal power. It was and is a reminder that no matter if Odin himself crowns you King, that you ultimately serve at the will of the people. No great feudal lord was ever going to win a war if his people were starving. Even the most military of dictators ultimately serves by the will of the soldiers. Those soldiers are people.

And although like the French Revolution the CC Music Community has had enlightened music aristocrats such as Trent Reznor and Amanda Palmer lend some support to our cause, we the people are still here.

I don’t think July 14 was picked because it was Bastille Day, but it is unambiguously a day of the people. And that is why I urge you to be a part of the people on July 14. Even if you release an album on June 30, save a track to be an exclusive release on July 14. People that may not even know your netlabel exists will see your Netlabel Day release. Save a release for selfish reasons. Save a release for egalitarian reasons. What’s important is that we come together, and we can’t be together without you.
