Get Some

Sadly all music is not yet licensed as Creative Commons, but you can find music that is in lots of places.

Jamendo

Everything on their site is licensed under Creative Commons. It is a great place to start because it is easy!

Dogmazic

Dogmazic has a lot of different licenses. We focus on Creative Commons because it is far and away the dominant player in the space, but some of these other licenses are compatible with Creative Commons licenses, so it is important to know about them in case you want to incorporate them into your work. For example, the License Art Libre (also called Free Art License in English) is compatible with CC BY-SA 4.0.

Bandcamp

Arguably, where most people get their independent music downloads today. They do detail how the music is licensed, but there’s no easy way to search only for Creative Commons work. And people fear their new ownership will ruin things eventually.

Mirlo

A new service that wants to do right by artists. They seem very cool.

SoundCloud and YouTube: Technically, you can get CC Music in these places but it tends to be pretty unreliable. Lots of remixes on SoundCloud that are not legally Creative Commons because of the source material. YouTube does have a place for creators where they can find CC Music, but YouTube only allows CC BY so it’s pretty limiting. You CAN find CC Music there. Sometimes the license will be listed in the description but sometimes not. Neither place is really a great place for finding music.
