Please Welcome A23P as the CTO of FCCM

Please join me in welcoming A23P aka Alien Nesby (Al) as the Chief Technical Officer of Friends of CC Music (FCCM).

Mr. Nesby never got back to me about this intro post and I forgot to ask on our call last night, but seeing as how he’s officially doing the work of CTO, I’m going to post it and he can write a hello post if he feels the need.

Al is a veteran of Acid All Stars as well as Church of Space and something with which many of you will be aware: Nu Kids OFF the Block.

FCCM has many potential technical projects ahead of itself:

bringing back cchits in some fashion

finding a PeerTube instance that will allow us to go live

hosting a Jitsi instance

streaming CC Music (or partnering with an existing stream)

hosting a cc-only music platform (bandwagon or something of that nature)

hosting a cc-only social media site (such as mastodon)

Due to my work a decade ago with the Netizen Empowerment Federation, I knew FCCM would not be a job I could organize by myself. While many folks have stepped up to share opinions and attend meetings, up until now, there has not been anyone owning a specific task or set of tasks.

Al taking the role of CTO will allow me to continue to work with Omar and our major unofficial partner, Netlabel Day. Likewise, Al or I will again seek partnership with Ben at bandwagon, which the organization has let slide while we figured out our new path forward. Additionally, I would like to extend our partnerships to organizations like Free Music Archive, Jamendo, Bandcamp, many others, and of course other technical partners with which Al will also be working.

We do not yet have a strict agenda, but if you would like to get involved in one of the technical projects or something else, please email me at doug@blocsonic.com or reach out on Mastodon: https://mastodon.social/@musicman
