Be a Netlabel Day Host DJ (or live musician)!

WHO:

Any Net Native Music enthusiast! If you like legally shareable music, you can be a Netlabel Day DJ! Music does not need to have been previously shared on a netlabel.

In fact, if you are a musician that normally does not release under a CC license, but would like to contribute a live recording to the commons, that would work too!

While many in the commons are in the music industry full time (touring musicians, studio owners, audio engineers, etc), many are folks that decidedly want to keep money away from their music because music is fun for them and they have a job. They don’t want music to feel like a job. And, of course, there is everything in between! So come one, come all!

WHAT:
Omar (Netlabel Day Head Curator) has a server where he streams music 24/7/365. On Netlabel Day, he opens up the stream for DJs to share whatever shareable music they like. Most of that music is under CC licenses, of course.

WHEN:

Whatever your timezone sun up to sun down is Netlabel Day! 51 hours of total music to accommodate every timezone!

WHERE:
Ideally, some place quiet enough for you to talk without background noise but you don’t necessarily need to say anything, you can just watch the queue, or if you have it set up to stream properly, you can even spin physical media (tapes have a spinny piece in the middle…probably something will be spinning if it is physical).

As far as signing up, you do that here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ALqXQFUNIoFAfaeAXtWKb3pxK_3YZjSP7r2LCb8lu9w/edit?gid=777964345#gid=777964345

Omar would prefer you sign up for a live slot than a recorded slot. If you want to record a podcast in honor of Netlabel Day, that is highly encouraged, but we’d like the event to be an event, with live interaction. Still, if you are unable to participate live during the 51 hours of Netlabel Day, you can do a pre-recorded slot!

If you don’t want to hit a Google Spreadsheet, you can email me at doug@blocsonic.com and I can sign you up, but there is going to be a time delay so if you have limited availability, I would encourage you to sign up yourself.

WHY:
Well, I could write something grand about preserving music for future generations, but likely if you are reading this you have some familiarity with the scene. The specific reason to sign up for a live spot is that Omar cannot stay awake for 51 hours. Even if he can, he shouldn’t.

HOW:

As far as connecting on the day-of, you will need to speak to @owilley206. His email is omar@seattlestar.net
