WHO:
Anyone who is involved or would like to be involved with Netlabels. There is also a Curator Assembly scheduled for July 19. Come to both if you like! The Curator Assembly is targeted specifically at podcasters and other sites such as clongclongmoo, Jamendo, and FMA in the Net Native Music (“ccmusic”) space. In the future, there may be a single Assembly but we are going to give this a go the first time around to make sure everyone has time to be heard.
WHAT:
Determine the future of netlabel collaboration.
Some questions we may attempt to answer:
Should we do more with netlabelguide.com?
Should we do more to promote the Internet Archive?
Should we do more to make sure musicians are fairly compensated?
Should we do more to promote live shows?
This is simply a time to discuss ways we can work together to make the netlabel scene better and to secure it for future generations. What proposals do you have?
WHEN:
Currently, there are planned sessions at 7am US Central and 2pm US Central (UTC-5). There are a number of sites that will help convert time, but one example is https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ (Chicago is US Central).
If anyone would like to lead a session at a different time or day, please email doug@blocsonic.com so we can get the time added to the list.
WHERE:
The discussion will be recorded and uploaded to https://dalek.zone/c/cc_community_music_awards/videos
Anyone else interested in hosting the video is welcome to.
WHY:
Everyone’s “why” is going to be different, but I believe that collective action is the best way to move forward. Collective action doesn’t mean one giant netlabel. That would ruin what we all love about netlabels. If we wanted things that looked and acted the same, we could just hit play and see what Spotify spits out. Collective action might just mean having a winter Netlabel Day, but something like that is going to emphasize the collective. Omar can’t do this alone!
If you don’t have questions or ideas right now, I encourage you to come and listen. Perhaps something will be sparked. Perhaps you have already traveled a path and can help steer the collective away from a potential waste of time. Perhaps your previously traveled path was close and just needs some tweaks.
If I felt like I had all the answers, I probably would be mining bitcoin with an AI agent and not typing a message about freely shareable music.
HOW:
You don’t need a login to join. You don’t need a camera. You don’t need a microphone. There is a built-in chat interface. Just put the link in your browser at the appropriate time and participate in a way that feels right to you. Feel free to come and go as required.
