A23P aka Alien Nesby (CTO Friends of CC Music) and I decided this past weekend during the Curator Assembly that we were going to narrow the focus of the organization to just netlabels.
The idea here is simple: netlabels already interact with podcasts, musicians, and fans. They do so in a way that works for specific timezones, languages, and genres. Why do that work twice?
Anyone interested in netlabels is welcome to attend events and meetings. Our monthly CC Listening Parties will remain largely unchanged. I will focus on netlabel tracks personally, but for anyone that wants to share other netnative music, we will simply present the music as an artist that netlabels should check out.
Netlabel Day is run by Omar, not by FCCM. As such, there will be no changes in Netlabel Day due to this. That said, after this year I do have some thoughts for making the Netlabel Day stream experience easier to follow. I will be speaking with Omar about these changes some time before Netlabel Day 2027.
Ultimately, given our limited resources, I don’t think much will change in the short-term. This will simply help us focus more clearly on the future.
As for the immediate future, please read my April article on the upcoming Netlabel Assembly.
